What is Human Trafficking?

Human Trafficking is the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harbouring or receipt of people through force, fraud or deception, with the aim of exploiting them for profit. Men, women and children of all ages and from all backgrounds can become victims of this crime, which occurs in every region of the world. The traffickers often use violence or fraudulent employment agencies and fake promises of education and job opportunities to trick and coerce their victims.

In late 2022 we were notified by a mother that we work with very closely that her daughter of 15 years and her friend whom was 17 had been trafficked to a massage parlor/brothel several hours away in a different city. A wealthy woman began ingratiating herself with the family and had offered to take the girls out for food and shopping. The mother trusted the woman as she had been very kind and generous in the past. This is a common tactic among traffickers. The mother was afraid and confused and didn’t know what to do except reach out to us. We knew only God could protect these girls as they were sat in a brothel (we didn’t know which one) and we felt powerless. So, we got everyone we knew to pray - including our Iris leaders (who happened to all be meeting at a gathering) and so many faithful prayer warriors all around the World. Because of the previous relationship between the madam and the young girls they were able to share with us the madams phone number. So, our team began to call the Madam’s phone, again, and again, and again. A previous staff member who is now a police officer in that same city also began to call the Madam again and again. This went on late into the night with what looked like no success. We got word early that next day that the girls had been released and sent home because the Madam got very nervous and paranoid because so many people were calling her phone on behalf of the girls. We also learned that the girls were forced to sit out in front of the massage parlor all night to work but that they did not have to go with a single client. We truly believe the Lord hid and protected these girls from what could have been a horrifying and traumatizing experience.
